A Counselling Service for individuals
People come to me in a variety of ways: Some refer themselves, some come through the NHS and other professionals, and some come through employment assistance programmes. I have successfully treated anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss including suicide, abuse, addiction, gender issues, and rehabilitation issues, especially those connected with coming to terms with chronic illness and disability.
A Counselling Service for couples
I previously worked for RELATE for ten years and have been married for over 50 years. I enjoy working with couples of all stages of development. Often couples wait until they are falling apart to get help. If possible, it is much better to come earlier for an MOT regarding one's partnership or for some marital enrichment, as everyone is living longer than ever before and problems can be extremely complex. This means that the couple relationship, which is the most complex of all relationships, may lose its spark or sparkle, or the couple may simply drift apart. With my help, couples can find a new lease on life and become reinvigorated.
However, there are times when it is too late and there is no 'good will' left to work with. I can then provide a mediation service to help the couple find a way of parting that will leave them on decent terms with one another so that that they can be a good parental team for their children should they have them.

A Counselling Service for families
A service where a child has special needs. When this occurs, the whole family will be affected and it is best for them to come for therapy if possible. Here are specific examples:
- When there is anxiety/depression in a child or a parent within a family.
- When there may be unrealistic expectations of a parent about a child (that their personality or academic ability will change to conform with parents’ views).
- When parents have unresolved major issues such as addictions, trauma and abuse.
- When there are Issues in reconstituted and complex families.
- When parents have marital and/or parental team problems.
- When there are unresolved adoption issues.
- When there are bonding issues in that attachment between parent and child is causing concern.
- When there are anger management issues at all levels – scapegoating.
- When parents need to come to terms with a child diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder or has traits.
- When parents need to come to terms with a child diagnosed with ADHD or has traits.
- When the family needs to come to terms with physical disability.
Where sessions are held
As a general rule, you are seen in my counselling/consulting room at my home at 35 Shearwater Avenue, Whitstable, Kent CT5 4DX. However, I also use a counselling room located at Methodist Community Centre, 20 Brewer Street, Maidstone, Kent ME14 1RU.
Sessions last for approximately 55 minutes. I have no waiting list at this time so you may be seen within the week. How long the treatment lasts is discussed and negotiated with you. It depends upon the problem/issues brought and how long you wish to work on it/them. Sessions may take place every week or every other week. The space between sessions may be wider in certain circumstances, but this usually means that the problem brought will take longer to resolve. Sessions are normally Monday thru Friday from 9:30am-19:30pm. When necessary, arrangements can be made for times outside these parameters.
