Covid-19:  "We are still open for consultation!"

To all those who are impacted by the coronavirus, I wish you well. I would also like to clarify that Phoenix Rising is Open and I am continuing to provide therapeutic services for people who are helped by talking through their anxieties and issues. While self-isolating and social distancing is now governmental policy, actually changing one’s behaviour can be immensely difficult and challenging. This is because it requires a certain level of flexibility and creativity which are very undeveloped in some people. Counselling can help in unlocking a person’s potential in some of these areas.

Adapting to social distancing may be especially tricky for extraverted people who are on the far extreme of the extravert/introvert spectrum. Extraverts get their energy and are invigorated by having dynamic lively conversations with other people.  Obviously this can be very difficult to do when you are attempting to social distance. Ideally, one places oneself at least six feet away and this wider distance can feel inhibiting to spontaneous conversation.

It is not only extraverts that may find social distancing difficult. Introverts at the other end of the extravert/introvert spectrum, may also find it stressful.  They too are required to stay away from friends for what may turn out to be a long period of time.  Without deep conversations with a few dear friends, loneliness can be experienced and really painful isolation can be felt.

It is my hope that you will browse through the site with discrimination - so that you can discover whether or not you wish to consult me.  If you should decide to meet with me, the aim will be to explore whether or not it feels appropriate to work together. We will also be looking at your specific needs and issues and how we might gain insight and understanding into them. If you decide to progress to this stage, I very much thank you for your courage and look forward to working with you. For those who wish to know more about my specific therapeutic orientation,  I see myself as a psychodynamic counsellor, although in fact I draw from many traditions, specifically Jungian.
